Description
The Materials Foreman works in a construction materials distribution center and is responsible for supervising operations related to the reception, storage, order preparation and distribution of materials. Its primary role is to ensure operations run efficiently and safely to meet customer needs.
Responsibilities
•Oversee the daily operations of the distribution center, including receiving merchandise, storing materials, preparing orders and distributing to customers.
•Plan and organize staff tasks to ensure productivity and customer service goals are met.
•Ensure materials are stored in a safe and organized manner, following safety standards and handling procedures.
•Oversee the goods receiving process, including quality control and inventory management.
•Coordinate the preparation of orders based on customer requests and agreed delivery times.
•Ensure handling and lifting equipment is used correctly and safely by staff.
•Train and supervise staff to ensure their efficiency and compliance with company standards.
•Maintain accurate reporting on inventory levels, merchandise movements and operational performance.
•Work with suppliers to resolve issues with orders, deliveries and merchandise returns.
•Ensure compliance with health and safety standards in the workplace and take corrective action in the event of non-compliance.
Requirements
•Experience in a supervisory or management role in a construction materials distribution center environment, an asset.
•Knowledge of construction materials and their characteristics.
•Having knowledge of truck mechanics, an asset.
•Knowing the truck loading and securing rules is an asset.
•Have experience driving a forklift.
•Hold a forklift operator’s license, an asset.
•Leadership skills and the ability to motivate and lead a team.
•Ability to work in a dynamic environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
•Good communication skills and ability to interact effectively with staff, customers and suppliers.
•Strong sense of organization and attention to detail to ensure precision of operations.
•Ability to work independently and make informed decisions in a timely manner.
•Knowledge of safety rules and commitment to workplace safety.
