Description
The Brick and Stone Mason Apprentice participates in the realization of construction, renovation and restoration projects of residential, commercial, industrial, institutional buildings and/or civil engineering structures. He may be called upon to work in the specialized sector of masonry restoration, or in a factory in the refractory sector.
He lays brick, sawn stone, glass blocks, cut stone, prefabricated concrete architectural elements using mortar, cement or any other adhesive. He erects various types of walls, partitions, fireplaces, chimneys, etc.
Responsibilities
•Read diagrams and plans to calculate required materials.
•Cut and trim bricks and concrete blocks according to specifications, using hand and power tools.
•Prepare and lay bricks, concrete or stone blocks, tiles and other similar materials to build or repair walls, foundations and other works in industrial, commercial or residential construction.
•Construct masonry chimneys and fireplaces in commercial or residential buildings.
•Build factory chimney casings using radial bricks.
•Lining factory chimneys with refractory bricks.
•Make or redo the lining of ovens, hearths, boilers and other works using refractory or acid-proof bricks, refractory concrete, refractory plastics and other materials.
•Make wall cladding or other surfaces in brick, stone or other similar materials.
•Build and install structures using prefabricated masonry elements.
•Build terraces, low walls or other decorative works in bricks or other similar materials.
•Refurbish, clean or paint, if necessary, existing structures.
•Perform any other related task.
Requirements
•Degree in bricklaying-masonry, an asset.
•Valid licence or certification, an asset.
•Field experience in construction sites, an asset.
•Have good knowledge related to the application of mathematics and geometry concepts, alignment and spatial perception of masonry elements.
•Meticulous, an asset.
•Ability to work in a team.
•Ability to lift loads.
•Be able to move on scaffolding and work at height.
