Description

As the Blaster Apprentice , you will be the expert in performing all blast site duties under the supervision of a blaster in charge. The Blaster Apprentice plays an essential role in drilling and blasting operations, primarily in quarries, construction sites and mines. This professional is responsible for preparing and securing blasting areas, handling explosives, and ensuring safety procedures are strictly followed.

Responsibilities

Prepare blasting areas by following established plans and diagrams.
Handle and load explosives into drill holes safely and accurately.
Install and position detonators and firing systems in accordance with established procedures.
Inspect blasting equipment regularly to ensure proper operation.
Coordinate with the drilling team and other personnel to ensure effective communication.
Comply with safety regulations and job site safety protocols.
Manage stocks of explosives and related supplies, ensuring their proper storage and use.
Participate in safety meetings and complete necessary training to stay up to date on blasting and safety best practices.

Requirements

Degree in drilling and blasting, or relevant experience, an asset.
Provincial Blasting License, minimum (enrolled in apprentice program).
Ability to work effectively under pressure and in demanding environments.
Communication skills for effective coordination with team members.
Ability to follow precise instructions and adhere to safety protocols.
Ability to work independently and in a team.
Good physical condition to work in outdoor and sometimes difficult environments.
